TERC Community Service Scholarship

Be sure to get you application in early as the deadline for applications is June 30, 2010.

Purpose:
To encourage and support post secondary education among young adults who are involved in community service activities.

Criteria:
Open to young adults in the Toronto area who have been accepted to attend an accredited post secondary institution. Applications will be accepted from those who are still in the application stages, but the award will not be given until acceptance is finalized. Interviews will be conducted as part of the selection procedure.

Must have a strong record of community service in each of the past 3 years. A list of the community service activities involvement will be required, signed off by the supervisor(s) associated with the applicant for this/these activities. Community Service, for the purpose of this award, deals with activities outside of the immediate school community.

500 word essay on the role of community service in your life and how it has affected your view of society. How has your community service impacted you?

Three (3) references required – one from each of a teacher or work supervisor, a supervisor for community service involvement, and a general character reference.

Preference will be given to young adults who live/attend school/are involved in the community area of the Toronto East Rotary Club.

Value:
Up to three awards – valued at $2,000 or $1,000

Receipt of Award:
Successful recipient(s) will be required to attend a scheduled lunch meeting
at Toronto East Rotary Club and will be expected to present their essay at
that time. The award monies will be paid to the recipient’s selected post
secondary institution, upon registration.
