The Motto and Emblem

The principal Motto of Rotary is "Service Above Self" but "He profits most who serves best" is also recognized as an official Motto. Of course, the word "profit" as used in this motto does not refer to pecuniary gain, but rather to that gain in character, happiness, and satisfaction which the one who serves experiences. It is through service that an individual becomes a bigger, broader, and more useful member of society - a profit, if you please, incomparably finer than financial gain.

The emblem of Rotary is a wheel with a hub, six spokes, and twenty-four cogs. The hub represents the Club, Toronto East in our case, and the spokes represent the influences that radiate from our organization. The cogs represent the individual members of Toronto East. It should be noted that the wheel has a keyway, indicating that it is a worker and not an idler.
